Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc. will become the second drugmaker to market a generic version of the popular smoking-cessation product Nicorette in January, the Corona company said in a release.
Watson has been cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to sell a mint-coated version of Nicotine Polacrilex Gum, a generic equivalent of the product first put out by British company GlaxoSmithKline PLC more than a decade ago. Watson already sells several products to smokers who want to break the habit.
Watson's product will be available in 2-milligram and 4-milligram strengths. Nicorette gum had annual sales of about $300 million in the 12 months ended Sept. 30.
